We were delighted to welcome a group of young adults from the halow project to Albury, so they could experience a day working with our Estate Manager Alex and the vineyard team.
As we approach harvest time at Albury, it's important to make sure the grapes ripen in time and this year's great British weather hasn't helped the process! Therefore we asked the halow volunteers to help with a 'green harvest'. This involved removing some of the unripe bunches, to give the remaining fruit a better chance of ripening.
Halow supports young adults across Surrey to live their best life. The charity equips young adults with learning disabilities and autism to live a life of purpose through learning new skills, becoming more independent and leading them to live the life they've always wanted.
In England, 5.1% of adults with a learning disability known to their local councils are in paid employment (NHS Digital, 2021). The halow project aims to change this via conversations and experiences, encouraging businesses to open their doors to our young adults to gain experience in various sectors.
The group of young adults from halow worked really hard and it was a pleasure to spend the day with them. We hope they enjoyed their work experience with us.
